I have
run around Forest Park and Tower Grove Park a lot (a lot).
While both parks are absolutely lovely and I don't plan on
stopping my visits to them, I recently decided to take a look around
online to explore some new options in the St. Louis area. Hours later,
after being linked back and forth all across the internet, I found myself with
a list of 60+ trails to explore totaling nearly 500 miles (not counting the
Katy Trail, only because the likelihood of me running across the state of
Missouri anytime soon is very close to non-existent).
While
there are some great resources for finding new running trails in the area (I'm looking at you, Big River Running, a
lot of these are incomplete or lacking in details – particularly pictures that give
a good idea of what the trail is like to run on. To remedy that (and to spare
my Facebook friends the inevitable glut of pictures I take in every new park) I’m
going to be working my way through the huge array of running options in the
area.
I’m a
relatively new to jogging and very much an amateur, and these review will
probably reflect that. I’m likely to pay more attention to how pleasant it is
to run in a particular location – how pretty it is, how well-signed, how
well-maintained – than how well it will serve you in training for your next 10K
(honestly, I’m not 100% sure what that would mean anyways).
Please
tell me what you think of particular trails, and absolutely send me any
recommendations that you may have. I’m sure I’m just scratching the surface of
places to run in the region and my goal is to explore and get to know the area.
